Anyone considering buying Test HD from Muscletech for higher testosterone and more energy in double quick time. We've got all you need to know about effectiveness, affordability and background, so worth a read before you commit.
I am busy - summarize it for me

Test HD is supplement headed in the right direction, but not quite there yet. They need to reconsider some of their dosages, strengthen the anti-estrogen profile, lose the trib and get some D-Aspartic Acid in there. Test HD? More like Test C+.

Test HD Review

Test HD is a natural testosterone booster from supplement company Muscletech. It caught our attention not only because we’ve reviewed Muscletech offerings positively in the past, but because Test HD made it into Bodybuilding.com’s Top 10 of 2016 list.

Test HD aims to:

  • Support testosterone
  • Raise ATP blood levels
  • Show results in 7 days

That last promise is interesting. Natural boosters usually require a couple of weeks at least to start affecting your body’s rhythms, so this is definitely worth a closer look…

Test HD

How Does It Work?

At a Glance

  • Tribulus Terrestris to boost testosterone (allegedly)
  • DIM to block estrogen
  • Shijit extract, boron and velvet bean to further promote T
  • Rhodiola rosea to boost energy and improve mood

Before we look in detail at the ingredient choices let’s break down our scores

The Scores

The Scores
Ingredients
6/10

Tribulus terrestris is always a waste, but after that it’s the doses at fault here more than the choices. The Shiljit extract has promise and the boron is right on the money, but other strong ingredients like zinc, stinging nettle and velvet bean all need a serious top up as far as we’re concerned. The servings also needs a rethink.

Price
7/10

If you get it for around the $30 mark (it’s available for more) this is actually pretty good value for a booster, and Test HD is by no means bad. That said $30 a time for a supplements with some problems soon adds up, so we would recommend you hold off and budget for the very best options instead.

Trustworthiness
7/10

Muscletech are far too established for there to be anything shifty about their manufacturing process, so no worries there. The only things we’d take issue with is the continued use of an old ingredient and some doses that are a lighter than studies show they need to be to be successful.

Testimonials
7/10

We have to rely on customer reviews from retail sites, this is not ideal because it doesn’t have the detail of a dedicated testimonial section. However it is pretty positively reviewed with the main problems including needing several bottles to feel results (so much for results in 7 days) and a drop off in energy at certain points of the day.

Company
9/10

Muscletech are a huge company with a fans and worldwide reach. They have supplements of all kinds making up the Performance Series, Essential Series, 5X-7 Series and others. Their website is slick and they have plenty of athletes going to bat for them.

How Do I Take It?

Users are advised to take two servings of one capsule twice a day.

This is plenty handy, but we’re not sure how effective it will be. The best boosters prefer a serving schedule of 3 to 4 times a day, spaced out evenly to keep active ingredients topped up.

2 capsules to keep T flowing for 24 hours of a busy day? We don’t buy it. Expect some drop off in effect later on.

Side Effects?

We haven’t seen anything to worry us as far as side effects.

Test HD Ingredients – In Detail

Zinc

– Zinc is a great mineral for T. Guys with low T often also have low zinc and this isn’t coincidence. It stimulates several important building blocks for stronger T, including luteinizing hormone, human growth hormone and follicle stimulating hormone. Our only gripe is it’s so good there should be more than 7.5mg per serving, we can tolerate much higher

Calcium

– Aside from strengthening bones, calcium can stimulate testosterone, but only in active males and probably not at just 4mg.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19099204

Tribulus Terrestris

– It’s pretty unbelievable that in 2016, some brands still rate trib as a T booster. The majority of quality studies have thoroughly trashed its ability to help the male hormone, with the more generous suggesting a slight improvement in libido. Still a waste of 250mg though.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15994038

Shilajit Extract

– At least one study has shown that this mixture of minerals, long used in Ayurveda medicine, can help T in infertile males. More work needs to be done to figure out the exact benefits for the rest of us though.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20078516

Boron Citrate

– Boron is another great mineral because it lowers activity of Sex Hormone Binding Globulin. This is a protein which attaches to testosterone and it stops T being used effectively, and can effect up to 60% of our body’s supply. It has also been shown to simultaneously reduce the female hormone, giving T free reign. There’s 100mg of boron citrate here, containing 5% boron. 5mg of boron will get the job done.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21129941

Broccoli Powder (DIM)

– DIM is a nutrient which has become popular in boosters for its anti-estrogen effects. However it’s worth noting that in some doses DIM can sometimes stimulate production of the female hormone.  That makes the 50mg in Test HD a gamble.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11931841

Stinging Nettle

– Stinging nettle is also pretty good at reducing SHBG influence and therefore raising our free testosterone. Again though the problem is with dose, this strong ingredient is only given 50mg a serving. This is a perfect example of where the volume wasted on Trib would’ve been better used.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/17238068
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/7702715

Velvet Bean

– Also known as Mucuna Pruriens. This is another choice let down by amount. Velvet bean is a great source of the amino acid L-Dopa which is proven to stimulate testosterone and human growth hormone. This choice also cuts cortisol, the stress hormone which blocks T. This not only helps T levels, but should improve mood. It’s a shame then there’s only 50mg in Test HD.

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16932991

Anything Missing

– Test HD would definitely benefit from premium natural T booster D-Aspartic Acid. This is a real cornerstone of quality boosters. Magnesium would also help promote free testosterone and vitamin B6 is a more established anti-estrogen choice than anything on offer here. is missing a few tried and tested T boosting minerals, therefore we’d like to see some of those. Zinc and boron to name a couple.

Overall

We can definitely see why people would be drawn to Test HD, it features some strong ingredients for a reasonable price. But the devil’s in in the detail though, and the formula is going to need a few tweaks to compete with the best boosters on the market.
