Why Get Your Testosterone Tested?

It never ceases to amaze us how many guys (and increasingly, women) buy a course of supplements designed to increase their testosterone without establishing what their testosterone levels are in the first place.

So that test booster you bought, the one that made you feel fantastic within the first few days of taking it?

You might have been vitamin D3 deficient. Or magnesium deficient. Or vitamin B6 deficient.

Maybe it did increase your testosterone levels. But without first establishing a baseline level, you have absolutely no idea!

Take the guess work out of it. Get your testosterone levels definitively checked and then you can start looking at the best and most effective ways to combat your low test levels once those have been confirmed.

Who Are LetsGetChecked?

LetsGetChecked are a leading worldwide provider of self-administered health checks. Offering a service in 16 countries, and with labs in Europe, the US, and Asia, they enable access to a high quality range of testing services at an affordable price.

Testing kits are sent to your home address in discreet packaging. The tests are simple to perform and virtually painless – making them convenient, easy, and stress-free – especially for those with a needle phobia.

You send your sample back in the post where it is analyzed using one of the laboratories in their worldwide diagnostics network.

When the results are ready, you will be notified by email. You then login to your account to review the results online, and the analysis provided by the medical professionals who have reviewed them.

What Are Normal Test Levels?

First of all, all results are reviewed by certified medical professionals, including genetic counsellors, specialist doctors, and registered nurses.

Secondly – there are no concrete agreements on the levels of testosterone which qualify as ‘low t’. But there is a general consensus, as this set of guidelines on testosterone published by the British Society of Sexual Medicine demonstrates;

“Whilst there are no generally accepted lower limits of the normal range for testosterone, there is general agreement that a total testosterone level above 12 nmol/l (350 ng/dl) does not require replacement. Patients with serum total testosterone levels below 8nmol/l (230ng/dl) will usually benefit from testosterone treatment.”

Your Options

There are many health tests available, but in relation to testosterone there are two options. You can either go for a basic testosterone level check, or for a little more opt for the full Male Hormone Test.

Why would you want the more expensive option? To quote from the same document from the BSSM, we can say that it will be useful for you to have the full breakdown of SHBG and free testosterone in the event that total test levels are between 8 and 12 nmol/l;

“If the serum total testosterone level is between 8 and 12 nmol/l, repeating the measurement of total testosterone with sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) and albumin to calculate free testosterone, or free testosterone by equilibrium dialysis, may be helpful.”

So in short – it depends on your results. And you won’t know those at the point of ordering. So if you suspect you have low testosterone levels, it could be worth paying slightly more to have the full breakdown.

The Service

On their website LetsGetChecked say that you will receive your results in 5 days. We can only assume they are trying to be prudent here, because you are likely to receive them quicker than that.

Customer services actually quote 2 to 5 business days. Presumably the reason they don’t shout that from the rooftops is because;

  • They have global coverage and have to quote the time for the slowest countries, not the fastest
  • Managing expectations : it’s better to under promise and over deliver than over promise and under deliver.

So turnaround may be quicker than expected.

Extensive Coverage

LetsGetChecked global coverage is the most extensive for any of the premium testing services we’ve reviewed. There are numerous smaller localized services which operate in one country only but don’t have a global presence.

The reason for this? You need a global network to deliver a global service, you can’t just set up in one country and have blood samples sent to you through international mail.

Many countries have strict rules in relation to the cross-border transportation of blood samples. They are in place to prevent the spread of blood borne viruses. So if you live in France, you cannot mail your blood sample to a lab in UK, it has to go to a lab in France.

What Others Say

Anybody who has followed this site will know we are often sceptical of third party review sites. However the LetsGetChecked reviews on TrustPilot are impressive.

They’re not the usual short, anonymous sentences that raises our suspicions – these are detailed and genuine. What really impresses us are the customer service replies, this is a company which cares about it’s customers and reputation.
